TAO is the native token of the Bittensor network, a project that combines blockchain and decentralized AI.
A quick summary
TAO = Incentive token for decentralized AI networks
Who contributes better AI models/computing power/data to the network, who can mine TAO.
What is Bittensor?
Bittensor aims to create an “AI Bitcoin”:
Not relying on a big company to train AI
People worldwide can access the network to provide models, computing power, or evaluation capabilities
The network automatically rewards “smarter” models with tokens
👉 AI capability = consensus resource
What roles are there in the network?
Miner
Provides AI capabilities (such as LLMs, recommendation models, image models, etc.)
Validator
Evaluates which models are better, determines reward distribution
Subnet
Each subnet focuses on a specific area (LLM, images, financial prediction, search, etc.)
What is the purpose of the TAO token?
TAO = Network fuel + core incentive
Mining reward:
Provide valuable AI → earn TAO
Staking:
Vote on your preferred subnets/models
Governance rights:
Decide network parameters, subnet rules
AI value pricing unit:
Measure the “value” of AI contributions with TAO
How is it different from traditional AI projects?
Comparison Item OpenAI / Google Bittensor
Control Company Network
Model Source Internal Anyone globally
Incentive Method Salaries TAO mining
Open Source Partial Highly open
Censorship Resistance Weak Strong
Why is TAO considered promising?
🧠 One of the most hardcore combinations of AI + Crypto
🔗 Not just an “AI concept coin,” but a real network
🌱 Subnet ecosystem expanding rapidly
🪙 The token is directly linked to AI output
Many see TAO as:
“If AI truly decentralizes, it’s most like the underlying asset”
Risks also need to be clarified
High technical barrier, difficult for ordinary people to participate
Quality of subnets varies
Intense competition in the AI track
TAO’s price is highly volatile
In summary
TAO is a project that “mines AI intelligence” through a token mechanism
It’s not about hype but exploring:
“Can AI be shared and priced globally like computing power?”
$TAO Is this coin VC-backed? Will there be large unlocks later?
Answer: The token release mechanism of TAO (Bittensor project) is based on continuous emission from mining and validating rewards, with no typical large initial unlock or pre-sale allocation. The project adopts a fair launch model, with tokens gradually released through network activity, rewarding every 12 seconds. Currently, the daily emission is about 3600 TAO (after the first halving in December 2025, halved from 7200). This can be seen as a slow release, with no gradual unlock or large one-time issuance, and it is not a VC coin.
Bittensor has not sold tokens to VCs, nor does it have a VC vesting schedule. All tokens are distributed through farming (mining rewards). If VCs want to participate, they can only buy on the market or mine themselves.
