WellCare of Kentucky and the Centene Foundation have launched a $550,000 Food is Medicine Program in Eastern Kentucky to address rising diabetes rates in rural communities. The program, in partnership with Mountain Comprehensive Health Corporation (MCHC) and Community Agricultural Nutritional Enterprises, Inc. (CANE), will provide eligible Medicaid enrollees with diabetes access to weekly home-delivered, medically tailored meals, recipes, and educational materials for up to three years. This initiative aims to improve health outcomes and manage chronic disease by integrating nutritious food access into healthcare delivery, targeting areas disproportionately affected by food insecurity and limited preventive care.
