Middle East Situation | Netanyahu: Israeli forces launch airstrikes, kill Iranian Navy Commander
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu stated on Thursday that the IDF is fully engaged in striking Iranian targets and confirmed that a recent targeted attack was carried out against Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, who was killed in the attack. He had been responsible for pushing to close the Strait of Hormuz.
The Israel Defense Forces issued a statement saying that during an airstrike on the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas, Tangsiri and several senior naval officials were killed. At the time of the strike, Tangsiri was in a meeting with several senior IRGC Navy officers. In addition to Tangsiri, Behnam Rezaei, head of the Iranian Navy Intelligence, was also killed in the operation. The names of other senior commanders who died have not been disclosed.
The statement said Tangsiri had served as commander of the IRGC Navy for about eight years, during which he was responsible for attacks on oil tankers and commercial ships, repeatedly threatening navigation and trade security in the Strait of Hormuz and international waters. In this round of conflict, Tangsiri led efforts to close the Strait of Hormuz and planned maritime attacks, making him one of the key figures disrupting the global economy.
