Female employee "accuses" the director of Xinda Securities Research Institute of harassment. What happened?
On March 25, a report concerning a scandal circulated online. The whistleblower, claiming to be Tang Chanyu, an employee of China Cinda Securities Research Institute, accused the target, Zuo Qianming, the director of the Research Institute, general manager of the Energy and Dual Carbon Research Center, and chief energy analyst.
According to the report, the incident occurred on the night of March 24. Tang Chanyu stated that Zuo Qianming asked her to accompany him on a business trip to Shanghai for a series of meetings. After a dinner that night, on the way back to the hotel, Zuo Qianming touched her hand under the pretext of saying, “You look nervous, relax,” and then gradually touched her private areas. Tang Chanyu expressed that she pushed him away on the spot and showed signs of panic, but Zuo Qianming did not stop and made another inappropriate advance.
Upon arriving at the hotel, Tang Chanyu stated that Zuo Qianming forcibly pulled her in a public setting, asking her to “come to my room.” After she refused, he continued to chase and pull her, even attempting to shove her into the backseat of a taxi, saying unsettling phrases like, “Don’t be nervous, a shot will be fine.”
The whistleblower specifically mentioned that Zuo Qianming is highly respected in the team, the research institute, and the industry, stating, “Before the incident, I firmly believed that he was a reputable, upright leader who valued his subordinates. This incident has had a tremendous impact on me.”
The whistleblower indicated that coming forward today to disclose this matter is to protect her legal rights and to prevent such egregious events from happening to more colleagues. “I am not afraid of the storm that may follow. As a young employee who graduated in 2023 and joined Cinda Securities, I still hold a childlike heart, believing that there is still a glimmer of justice in this world.”
Public information shows that Zuo Qianming graduated from China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing) and previously served as the deputy director (in charge of work) of the Industry Consultation Office of the China National Coal Association, possessing over a decade of research experience in the coal and energy fields. He joined Cinda Securities in 2016 and has been responsible for the research of the large energy sector since 2019, leading the team to win multiple industry awards.
