Micron plans to develop stacked GDDR technology, with prototypes expected to be launched in 2027.

Micron Technology is attempting to develop stacking-based graphics memory (GDDR) technology for the first time. The company is preparing the necessary equipment and plans to begin process testing in the second half of 2026. Stacking GDDR may not perform as well as HBM but offers larger capacity. The company’s early design is expected to use approximately four-layer stacking structures, with prototype products potentially debuting as early as 2027.
