The sources said that there is little likelihood of reaching a partial agreement within the next 48 hours, but this final effort is the only chance to prevent the war from escalating sharply. President Trump’s 10-day deadline set for Iran was originally due to expire late Monday, but on Sunday Trump extended the deadline by 20 hours and posted a new deadline on social media: 8:00 p.m. Tuesday Eastern Time. On Sunday, Trump said the U.S. is engaged in intensive negotiations with Iran and said an agreement could be reached before the deadline expires.
