Sweden's top commander: Swedish pilots can shoot down invading Russian planes
Jin10 reported on September 29 that the highest commander of the Swedish Armed Forces, Michael Claesson, stated that Swedish pilots can shoot down any Russian aircraft that violates Swedish airspace. Swedish SVT television quoted him as saying, "If the other party does not comply with the instructions, it may be necessary to use weapons in extreme cases, first for designation, and second for effective fire. In other words, to shoot it down." Michael Claesson added that the decision to open fire ultimately rests with the pilots facing the threat at the Swedish border. However, Michael Claesson also stated that while the possibility of such a situation cannot be ruled out, it seems unlikely at present, as he believes that Russia does not want to go to war with NATO, but merely wants to politically divide NATO.
