Shift4 Payments has decided to adopt xAI's Grok while keeping Anthropic's Claude. xAI's customers are primarily connected to Musk's enterprises and government entities, a strategy that reflects a broader trend in the AI industry where competitors are also deploying engineers to support customers.

An xAI team member Jaime Alonso announced his departure on March 20, which was his last day at the company. He thanked co-founder Toby Pohlen and the London team for their support. Pohlen himself had announced his departure earlier on February 27, and had previously been involved in the development of Grok.

xAI's Grok 4.20 officially ended beta testing on March 19th and launched four reasoning modes. Grok 4.20 set a record of 78% in hallucination-free rate testing, but its composite intelligence score is 48 points, lower than competitors. API pricing is $2 for input and $6 per million tokens for output, supporting context of up to 2 million tokens.

Gate News reported that on March 17, Musk posted on social media stating that by the end of this week, xAI will be training three Grok Build models simultaneously.

xAI is recruiting financial domain experts from Wall Street to expand its data annotation team for Grok, aiming to improve training data for credit markets. The team, led by Diego Pasini, targets enhancing AI programming capabilities and business customer development, currently facing competitive pressure.

Mistral AI co-founder Chaplot joins xAI and SpaceX to participate in Grok large language model training and the integration of digital intelligence and physical hardware. Recently, xAI has recruited multiple key talents, forming a stark contrast with talent attrition elsewhere.

Gate News reports that on March 13, xAI Omni team technical lead Haotian Liu posted on social media stating he has left xAI earlier this week. Haotian Liu previously independently led the development of the Grok Imagine v0.9 & v1 (image + video generation) projects.

A former xAI employee, Benjamin De Kraker, detailed his experience at the company, emphasizing its flat structure and initiative. Although his post soliciting user feedback for improvements went viral, he was threatened by his supervisor to delete it and ultimately resigned, reflecting suppression by middle management within the company.
