The piece, developed over four years by 128 artists from 37 countries, documents the evolution of BTC from its cypherpunk roots to its establishment as a global technological and cultural movement. Its 256 pages pay tribute to the cryptographic base SHA-256, and its production includes more than 40 specialized printing techniques.

The edition is housed in a 5,000-year-old fossilized black oak box, bound in bull leather, and adorned with a silver emblem designed by Asprey Studio, blending BTC’s digital origins with a physical form created to endure for generations.

Currently, it is the main auction item on Scarce.City, the platform hosting the bidding in support of the Bitcoin MENA event. After stops in the United Kingdom, Bitcoin Amsterdam, Pubkey New York, and Mondoir Gallery Dubai, the piece will have its final presentation on December 8 in Abu Dhabi, within an immersive installation at the Bitcoin MENA Art Gallery.

Global Impact: 79% of proceeds will go to Bitcoin education

The Smashtoshi collective, creators of the project, will allocate 79% of all auction proceeds to My First Bitcoin, the nonprofit educational organization that runs training programs around the world. The remaining 21% will be distributed among the 128 artists who contributed original works.

My First Bitcoin’s mission is to provide accessible education to more than 200 million students, with established programs in Latin America and international expansion underway.

For collectors, this First Edition represents both a significant cultural object and a direct way to support Bitcoin education worldwide.

A collaborative cultural archive

The work is based on:

• 128 artistic pieces that reinterpret key milestones between 1979 and 2025.
• Over 100 interviews with early contributors to the ecosystem, including Martti Malmi, Max Keiser, Samson Mow, Trace Mayer, and Aaron van Wirdum.
• Visual and conceptual contributions from creators such as Jesse Draxler, GMUNK, Billelis, Cypherpunk Now, Ryan Koopmans, Jenni Pasanen, Robert Alice, Jake Fried, and Hackatao, whose combined markets exceed $250 million in sales.

The project also includes a research volume for annotations, a public digital archive, and a global series of talks and exhibitions.

After the auction of the unique piece, 2,139 Collector’s Editions will be released, each with an exclusive fragment of Bitcoin’s original code. Together, the editions will contain the full code—a metaphor for BTC’s decentralized nature.
