Ethereum developers have recently finalized their upcoming upgrade plan. After Glamsterdam, the next major upgrade is named Hegota.

This name is interesting—it combines the execution layer "Bogota" and the consensus layer "Heze," reflecting Ethereum's coordinated upgrade approach across two core layers. However, the specific EIPs (Ethereum Improvement Proposals) to be implemented are not yet finalized, with a clear plan expected around February this year.

The timeline is as follows: Glamsterdam is scheduled to go live in the first half of 2026, completing some optimization work. By the second half of the year, Hegota will take over implementation. Developers are already considering some candidate directions, with optimization of Verkle tree structures being a hot topic—this is crucial for improving Ethereum's data storage and verification efficiency.

Looking at the overall upgrade pace, Ethereum continues to push for performance improvements and infrastructure enhancements, which will have a tangible impact on the ecosystem's capacity to support applications.

Another new upgrade name is here. This time, Hegota sounds a bit strange haha. Wait, can Verkle trees really improve that much? I'm a bit hopeful but also not too optimistic. They won't take action until the second half of 2026. It feels like we still need to wait and see.

Changing the name again, why not just call it "Upgrade Upgrade Upgrade" this time?

This naming style is really amazing, combining Bogota and Heze into Hegota... How bored are the developers?

Verkle tree? Yet another thing that will take half a year to see the results. Let the data speak—has the Gas fee dropped now?

Hegota's naming method is a bit amazing, kneading both layers in... However, it will not move until the second half of next year, and it still feels a bit slow.
