"Slop" is the new buzzword everyone's throwing around these days—and it just got the official stamp of approval. Merriam-Webster named it their 2025 word of the year.
So what exactly is slop? Think fake-looking, weird and obviously AI-generated content flooding your feed. You know the type—posts that feel off, images that don't quite look right, videos with that uncanny valley vibe. As generative AI tools became dirt cheap and stupidly easy to use, this garbage started showing up everywhere. Social media? Polluted. Comment sections? Full of it. Search results? Don't even get started.
The fact that this made it to Merriam-Webster says something. We've hit a point where fake, low-quality AI slop is so common it deserves its own dictionary entry. For the crypto and Web3 community, this is actually pretty relevant—trustless systems exist partly because we can't always trust information sources. When AI slop becomes the norm, that problem only gets worse.

slop this word is indeed amazing, now even Merriam-Webster Dictionary has to acknowledge it... it means the entire screen is filled with those fake AI trash that are so obviously fake. We've Web3 folks have known for a long time that information sources can't be trusted.

Now it's all good, slop has been added to the dictionary, indicating that our entire information ecosystem is completely rotten.
