I recently came across a shocking case. After a major holder proposed to transfer 50 million USDT, they cautiously tested the target address by sending 50 USDT first — this step was okay. But the subsequent actions went wrong.

The scammer responded by sending 0.005 USDT, using an address that matches the start and end of the real target address, with all the confusing characters in the middle. This is an old trick, but this major holder clearly didn't notice. They directly copied this similar address from their transaction history, and then the 50 million USDT was gone.

Even more astonishing is the scammer's follow-up: instantly converting the funds into DAI to avoid freezing risks, then rapidly sweeping 16,624 ETH, and finally laundering everything through a privacy mixing protocol. The entire process was seamless; by the time they realized what happened, the money was already gone.

What lessons does this incident teach us? Don't just quickly copy addresses from transaction records. You need to verify the entire wallet address character by character, especially the beginning, end, and middle sections. Even a single wrong letter means starting over. Honestly, should exchanges add some safeguards — like popping up a secondary confirmation window for large first-time transfers to a new address, prompting users to double-check the full address? Simple improvements could prevent many of these basic but deadly mistakes.
