On December 21, the crypto community expressed regret that crypto-friendly Senator Cynthia Lummis will not seek re-election next year and acknowledged her contributions to the crypto industry. David Sacks, the White House AI and crypto affairs director, called Lummis a “great ally in the crypto space.” Collin McCune, head of government affairs at a16z, stated that without Lummis's efforts in Congress, the crypto industry would not have developed to its current level. Bitcoin evangelist and host of “Coin Stories” Greg Xethalis thanked Lummis for her service and efforts to promote the Bitcoin cause, wishing her a wonderful next chapter. Cynthia Lummis previously announced on Friday that she would not seek re-election next year. As chair of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee on digital assets, she introduced the “Bitcoin Strategic Reserve Act” and was also a key advocate for the “CLARITY Act” (crypto market structure bill) and the “Responsible Financial Innovation Act.” As early as during the Biden administration, Cynthia Lummis publicly criticized former SEC Chairman Gary Gensler's punitive enforcement approach to regulating crypto assets.
