London-based digital asset hedge fund Karatage has new developments. They have just appointed Shane O'Callaghan as Managing Partner, responsible for institutional strategy. This guy has a solid background—he previously worked at IMC Trading, where he oversaw global institutional partnerships and digital asset sales. Before IMC, he was involved in global business development at Portofino Technologies, and later experienced the BlockFi story. It seems that Karatage's personnel adjustment this time is aimed at strengthening their institutional capabilities, as hedge funds now need to expand their business, and institutional cooperation is indeed a line that requires dedicated attention.

It's the same old trick, digging up someone with a background to support institutional business. But to be fair, the IMC+BlockFi track record is indeed interesting. We'll see if this guy can actually bring institutional money in.

The institutional side definitely needs knowledgeable people, but the experience with BlockFi depends on how you interpret it, after all, that story is quite complicated.
