Szabo was purely a researcher back then and missed out on that wave of profits. This is the tragedy of early builders... We latercomers, on the other hand, made a fortune by going all-in. Sometimes it's really painfully ironic.

According to research, Szabo's bit gold framework has actually been seriously underestimated. From a technical perspective, the digital scarcity mechanism he explored is even more elegant than later PoW... But the problem is, this guy didn't make much money, which in itself illustrates a paradox.
