A person who truly follows the Way of life often appears very relaxed, at ease, and even a bit boring. But it is precisely such people who are the most fortunate and closest to “the Way.” Because true vitality is not generated through tension and busyness, but flows naturally in relaxation and leisure. When someone remains in a state of ease for a long time, their spirit, energy, and vitality are at their fullest, their perception is most acute, and their creativity and manifestation power are at their strongest. The truth of life is actually very simple: most of the time, one should be “idle”; a small part of the time, engaged in what they truly love. If this beloved activity also helps others, then it is going with the flow, the most natural and healthiest state of life.

But most people today have been brainwashed by incorrect notions—thinking they cannot be idle, cannot stop, cannot relax, as if not being busy makes them useless. This idea itself contradicts the Way of life. If a person does not allow themselves to relax, to stay on standby, and forces themselves to “do something” every day, essentially, they do not love themselves. Long-term overwork and mental exhaustion will eventually manifest as illness. Many diseases are not caused by a body that is broken, but by excessive thoughts and prolonged mental drain, accumulated little by little.

You see, those who truly understand life—Zhuangzi, Tao Yuanming—their images are always relaxed, half-reclining, leisurely. Because Taoism truly understands health preservation and how life should flow smoothly. Take a walk, read a book, eat something you like—let your body and mind slowly relax. Whether you are now poor or wealthy, you should first restore your life to a natural, relaxed, and balanced state. Without overthinking, without desire, without emotional attachment—once the mind is still, the body will naturally relax. When energy is balanced, harmonious, and flowing smoothly, this internal balance will manifest externally as genuine “relaxation.” Relaxation is not laziness; leisure is not wastefulness. It is the appearance that life should have when it returns to its proper position.
