Michael Saylor, the founder and chairman of Bitcoin financial management firm Strategy, added a new metric to the company’s official website on January 18th. This is a move to make the company’s Bitcoin holdings more transparent.
Introduction of a New Bitcoin Performance Evaluation Metric
The update announced by Michael Saylor via the X platform focuses on quantifying the company’s Bitcoin strategy. Chaitanya Jain, who is responsible for Strategy’s Bitcoin product strategy, explained that this metric accurately reflects the company’s actual Bitcoin holdings.
Calculated as a Ratio of Net Holdings to Market Capitalization
The ‘BTC Grade’ is calculated using the following formula: (Bitcoin holdings - debt - preferred stock + US dollar holdings) / market capitalization. This indicates the proportion of net Bitcoin holdings relative to the company’s total market cap. Led by Michael Saylor, Strategy aims to clearly communicate the company’s Bitcoin asset composition to investors through this metric.
The introduction of this metric signifies a new standard for how companies holding Bitcoin as a strategic asset disclose and evaluate their holdings.
