Techub News reports that, according to CoinDesk, U.S. authorities have arrested former Canadian skiing star Ryan Wedding, who is accused of using cryptocurrency networks for drug trafficking and money laundering. Wedding competed for the Canadian team at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.

The FBI states that Wedding has links to the Sinaloa drug cartel and was sanctioned by the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control in November last year. The Treasury Department's announcement noted: "His criminal organization uses cryptocurrencies to transfer and launder proceeds from drug trafficking, concealing substantial illegal wealth."
