Complete Guide: How to Complete Pi Network's KYC Verification

Pi Network is a decentralized cryptocurrency project that allows users to participate in the blockchain ecosystem in an accessible way. To transfer the coins you have mined to the mainnet and perform transactions, completing the KYC (Know Your Customer) verification process is mandatory. Although the procedure is relatively straightforward in theory, many users face challenges with document uploads, activity verification, and biometric validation. This guide will help you understand all the necessary steps to pass your Pi Network KYC verification.

Requirements and Criteria to Apply for Pi KYC

Before starting your KYC verification request on Pi Network, you must meet certain mandatory requirements:

  • Minimum age: You must be 18 years or older to request verification.

  • Valid identity document: You will need a clear copy of one of the following government-issued documents:

    • Passport (recommended option)
    • Driver’s license
    • National identity card
  • Clear facial photograph: During the process, you must allow your device’s camera to capture your face in real-time for biometric verification. Your face must match clearly with the one on your identity document.

  • Minimum participation period: You must have mined Pi for at least 30 days in total (not necessarily consecutive) before you can request KYC verification.

  • Required time: The entire application process takes between 5 and 10 minutes.

Important note: Although Pi KYC is available globally, specific requirements, eligibility criteria, and availability may vary depending on your country or geographic location.

Step-by-Step Procedure for Identity Verification

Step 1: Download and install the Pi Browser app from Google Play Store (for Android) or Apple App Store (for iOS devices). If you already have it installed, proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Open the Pi Network app and go to the Mainnet section. This option is located in the side navigation menu.

Step 3: Access the Mainnet verification checklist tab and complete all listed tasks until you reach “Submit your KYC request.”

Step 4: Once you finish the previous tasks, the KYC app tab will be unlocked. Click on it to start your request. If this doesn’t work, manually go to the “kyc.pi” section in the Pi Browser.

Step 5: On the first screen of the KYC section, you will be prompted to select your country from a dropdown menu. Choose the country that exactly matches the one on your official identity document.

Step 6: Next, select the type of document you will use for verification. It is recommended to use a passport as it contains more detailed information and is internationally recognizable.

Step 7: You will see four slides with detailed instructions on how to properly capture your document and how to proceed. Read each carefully and press the “Next” button.

Step 8: Tap the “Add front photo” option and your camera will activate automatically. Capture a clear, focused image of the front side of your identity document. If your document has a back side with relevant information, you should also capture that part. Important tip: Keep the document horizontal when photographing it for the best image quality.

Step 9: After submitting the document photos, you will be redirected to a form that must be filled out with the same data as appears on your ID:

  • First name(s)
  • Middle name (optional)
  • Last name(s)
  • Gender
  • Date of birth
  • Document ID number
  • Document expiration date
  • Current country of residence

Step 10: After submitting the form, it’s time to perform the liveness check. Click the “I am ready” button to automatically activate the front camera. Hold the device in front of your face so it is clearly visible to the camera. The system will automatically capture your biometric image.

Duration of the Process and Status Check

After submitting your Pi Network KYC verification request, response times can vary significantly. In some cases, approval may take several days or even months. However, in exceptional circumstances where you provided accurate information and there are enough validators available in your region, verification could be completed within minutes.

To check the current status of your request, access your profile in the Pi Network app. If you see a green checkmark next to “Identity Verification (KYC),” your verification has been approved. A loading animation indicates your request is still under review. You can also check the Mainnet checklist: if the task “Waiting for KYC results” appears in green, your KYC has been successfully validated.

Clarification: Some users report that the Mainnet checklist does not update immediately even after approval. In these cases, rely mainly on the status shown in the Pi KYC section within the Pi Browser to confirm your actual status.

How Does the Validation System Work?

Due to the massive volume of requests on Pi Network, it is not practical for the central team to manually verify each identity. Therefore, a community validation system was implemented where already verified users help validate requests from others.

The process works as follows: Once you submit your documents, your request is assigned to a validator who has already completed their own KYC. That validator reviews your information and documents. Subsequently, your request is sent to a second independent validator for a second opinion. If both validators approve your request, you will successfully complete the KYC verification process.

An important feature is that validators are generally citizens of your same country, which speeds up the process and makes it more culturally understandable. As compensation for participating in validation, validators receive 1 Pi coin for each request they review.
