French former President Nicolas Sarkozy has failed in his attempt to evade electronic monitoring. The court rejected his request to lift the ankle bracelet. Sarkozy was sentenced to prison for the second time at the end of 2025 and has recently begun serving his sentence.

Electronic monitoring is a common measure in cases like this to oversee the enforcement of the sentence. Sarkozy hoped to avoid this time, especially since he already had to wear an ankle bracelet related to his first conviction. However, the court sees no reason to deviate from this measure.

The judges insisted that electronic control remains necessary. As a result, Sarkozy must comply with this legal requirement for a second time. The case demonstrates how strictly French courts enforce sentences, regardless of the convicted person’s previous status or position.
