U.S. Senators request the Department of Commerce to provide information on Bitmain's security risks and its connections to the Trump family.
Techub News reports that, according to Bloomberg, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren sent a letter on Thursday to Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, requesting documents and information regarding “potential national security concerns” related to Bitmain. Warren specifically focused on Bitmain’s business dealings with the Trump family, calling for the disclosure of communications records between Bitmain, Trump’s sons (Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr.), and the agency. Previously, the FBI was conducting an investigation named “Operation Red Sunset,” aimed at determining whether related equipment could potentially be remotely controlled for espionage or to sabotage the U.S. power grid.
American Bitcoin Corp, invested in by Trump’s sons, purchased 16,000 mining machines from Bitmain for $314 million last year. Earlier, both the federal review in May 2024 and the Senate Intelligence Committee report in July 2025 raised concerns about the security of Bitmain’s products. Bitmain responded that the related reports did not align with the facts, while American Bitcoin Corp stated that its security testing found no vulnerabilities.
