If conditions permit, freelancers should seriously consider the digital nomad visa route.

Many countries are now competing for remote workers, and many places already offer dedicated digital nomad or remote work visas; for example, Portugal has a Digital Nomad Visa for remote workers, and Spain also has a specific Digital Nomad Visa.
For freelancers, the benefits of this path are very straightforward: legally settle down, work and live at the same time, and experience a different way of life and a different mood. Of course, the premise is also very realistic: stable income, clear understanding of taxes, health insurance, housing costs, and so on. Otherwise, digital nomads may sound free, but in the end, they can easily become anxious while carrying their laptops around.
