Multiple popular applications in Russia will be restricted
Reportedly detecting VPN status and listing installed applications in response to government restrictions
An investigation by experts at RKS Global found that out of the 30 most popular Android apps in Russia, 22 have VPN detection features, with 19 sending VPN status to servers. Additionally, the Avito app was found to scan for over 200 foreign applications installed on the device, including banking, cryptocurrency wallets, and instant messaging tools.
This large-scale detection activity is related to the requirements of Russia's Ministry of Digital Development. The department has instructed major companies to restrict users from accessing related services if they enable VPNs on their devices starting from April 15, 2026.
