Small and Medium Risk Enterprise Division, will revise the small business and commerce support system from a sales revenue-centered approach to an income and assets-centered approach
Small and Micro Business Support Department Announces Shift from Sales-Based to Income and Asset-Based Support System
The Small and Micro Business Support Department announced on the 16th that it will introduce a new support system based on income and assets of small and micro businesses, moving away from the previous sales-focused criteria. This policy aims to better reflect the actual economic conditions of small businesses, enabling more precise selection of support recipients and more efficient assistance.
The department stated that the new support system will consider both income and assets of small and micro businesses. This change responds to criticism that the previous sales-based standard did not adequately represent the true financial situation of small businesses. Currently, businesses with annual sales below 1.4 billion won are eligible for support; moving forward, both income and asset levels will be taken into account.
Additionally, to address disputes over the allocation of policy funds based on application order, plans are underway to improve the application and evaluation process. Although fund applications were previously processed in order of receipt, this often led to misunderstandings. In reality, support recipients were selected through criteria review and on-site inspections. To improve this process, a new plan reflecting field feedback will be developed.
To support the growth of small businesses, training programs utilizing artificial intelligence and digital tools will be provided to enhance capabilities. Collaborations with major platform companies like NAVER and Kakao will help small businesses expand their online sales channels. Furthermore, to revitalize traditional markets, customized support programs and tourism content development will be promoted. These efforts aim to leverage the unique appeal of traditional markets to achieve economic revival.
It is expected that these changes will help small and micro businesses grow more sustainably and resiliently. The support system may also evolve from protective policies to a more diversified framework. Various sectors look forward to accurately understanding the current situation of small businesses and establishing an efficient policy communication system to effectively enhance policy outcomes.
