Enterprises Adopt Hybrid AI Models as OpenAI and Anthropic Face Price Pressure

According to Beating, on July 27, enterprises are shifting from exclusive reliance on OpenAI and Anthropic to hybrid model strategies, using cheaper open-weight models for routine tasks and reserving top-tier models only for complex problems. This fragmentation is forcing model makers into aggressive price competition: Pylon secured approximately $1.6 million in free tokens and months of unlimited access, while roughly half of Hex's customers have adopted Kimi in recent weeks. Chinese models including Kimi and GLM are now entering U.S. enterprises, with Harvey deploying GLM-5.2 first and escalating to Anthropic's Claude 5 only for difficult cases. The shift threatens OpenAI and Anthropic's high valuations by concentrating their revenue on fewer, harder tasks while subsidy costs rise.
