NYC Property Database Puts Wealthy Residents at Risk, Crypto Leaders Warn Amid 1,200% Surge in Attacks

Prominent crypto figures warned on July 24 of security risks from a searchable database built from New York City's public property records, which they say could expose wealthy residents to violent attacks. Uniswap founder Hayden Adams called it "the worst mass doxxing I've ever seen," noting the database listed nearly every unit in luxury apartment buildings and singled out the wealthiest property owners. Castle Island Ventures partner Nic Carter warned that organizing scattered public records into an easily searchable database created a "target list," pointing to recent crypto kidnappings in France and Sweden.

The criticism comes as verified crypto "wrench attacks" surge. According to security firm CertiK, attackers carried out 52 verified attacks in the first half of 2026, with recorded losses surging to $124 million—a twelvefold increase year over year.
