Putin: Russia needs to develop homegrown large language models to safeguard national security and defense capabilities

Gate News, April 11. Russian President Putin said on April 10, while attending a government meeting on the development of artificial intelligence technologies, that large language models have become foundational, end-to-end technologies for development across all areas of the country. He noted: "Only by having our own models can we move forward with confidence, ensure security and defense capabilities, and remain at the forefront of scientific and engineering thinking. What's more, Russia is one of the few countries in the world with unique expertise in this field." Putin also mentioned that so-called open-source solutions are often used to develop language models, and that developers in different countries share complete algorithm libraries; this cooperation and partnership resource should be put to effective use.
