South Korean President Lee Jae-myung Blames Easy Jeonse Loans for Soaring Apartment Prices on July 23

According to Yonhap News, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on July 23 attributed abnormal apartment price surges partly to overly permissive jeonse loan (전세대출) policies. Speaking at a national real estate policy forum in Seoul, Lee stated that policies allowed borrowers to access loans equal to 100% of apartment values, when a 70-80% ratio would have been more appropriate. He emphasized the need to strengthen jeonse lending regulations while maintaining targeted support for youth, newlyweds, and first-time borrowers.
