South Korea's National Pension Service Buys 28.3 Billion Won in Stocks During July Market Slump

According to the Korea Exchange, South Korea's National Pension Service bought a net 28.3 billion won in stocks from July 1–21, reversing market concerns about massive selloffs triggered by its rebalancing program restart. Between July 14–21, the fund made net purchases across five consecutive trading days totaling 301.5 billion won, with KOSPI plunging 20.4% from 8,470 to 6,740 during the period. The fund's largest single purchase was SK Hynix at 445.8 billion won, as the chip maker fell 25.1%. Market analysts noted that the stock market decline naturally reduced domestic equity holdings, easing mechanical selling pressure from rebalancing and allowing the pension fund to accumulate bargains at depressed prices.
