Abstract generation in progress

【比推】Samourai Wallet founder Keonne Rodriguez was sentenced to five years by a federal court in New York. The charge? Operating a money transfer business without a license.

This guy previously reached a plea agreement with the prosecution, and along with another co-founder, has to cough up $237 million in assets, plus a $400,000 fine. The crux of the case is their mixing service—which is accused of helping to launder money for dark web and scam funds.

The boundary between privacy tools and regulatory red lines has once again been starkly drawn. For those projects still operating in the gray area, this ruling serves as a harsh wake-up call. Compliance costs are high, but the price of non-compliance could be even higher.

The money is gone, and so is the person.

This fine is indeed a bit harsh.
