Netflix's 'KPop Demon Hunters' Makes Chart History Alongside Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Bad Bunny
The animated film’s soundtrack has shattered a record on the Billboard Global 200, becoming the first-ever film score to simultaneously occupy five positions within the top 10 of the global consumption chart. This unprecedented achievement places the project in rarefied air, joining an exclusive circle of just 11 releases worldwide that have ever accomplished such a feat.
A Milestone Unmatched by Any Soundtrack Before
When “What It Sounds Like” climbed from No. 11 to No. 10 in its ninth week on the Billboard Global 200, it sealed a historic moment for the KPop Demon Hunters album. The four other tracks—“Golden,” “Soda Pop,” “Your Idol,” and “How It’s Done”—have held steady at positions 1, 3, 4, and 5 respectively, creating an unprecedented footprint for a cinematic soundtrack.
This achievement is particularly remarkable because the other ten albums to ever attain five simultaneous top 10 entries on the chart are all conventional studio albums released by superstar musicians. The KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack stands alone as the sole project from a filmed entertainment property to reach this threshold.
How It Compares to Pop Music’s Biggest Names
The landscape of multi-charting dominance is populated by some of the industry’s most commercially dominant forces. Taylor Swift has accomplished this milestone three separate times across different album cycles. Her 2022 project Midnights first achieved the distinction, followed by 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in 2023, and The Tortured Poets Department in 2024.
Drake mirrors this trajectory with three albums featuring at least five top 10 entries: Certified Lover Boy, Her Loss (with 21 Savage), and For All the Dogs.
Bad Bunny and Harry Styles represent another tier of achievement. Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti and Debí Tirar Más Fotos both surpassed the five-position threshold, while Styles’ Harry’s House similarly achieved the benchmark. For both artists, these represent their most chart-dominant projects to date.
Kendrick Lamar rounds out this elite roster with GNX, which also crossed the five top 10 threshold on the global consumption rankings.
Why This Matters for Soundtrack Culture
The dominance of the KPop Demon Hunters album on the global charts signals a shift in how audiences consume entertainment and music simultaneously. By capturing half of the top 10 positions on the Billboard Global 200, the soundtrack has demonstrated that film and music properties can compete on equal footing with traditional pop releases from mainstream artists.
