Russia is taking serious action against illegal mining again. According to the latest news, the Russian Ministry of Justice has proposed a set of strict penalties—illegal mining can be fined up to 1.5 million rubles or forced to work for up to 2 years. But this is not the harshest part; if the profits are particularly large or if organized gangs are involved, the penalty is directly upgraded to 5 years of imprisonment.
These sanctions have already been incorporated into amendments to the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code, and are currently publicly available on the Russian legal draft system. It is clear that governments around the world are becoming increasingly explicit about their stance on crypto mining— the era of unregulated growth is over. Whether for energy regulation or tax considerations, normalization has become inevitable. For miners who want to take risks, the costs are instantly raised.
