No matter what the relationship is, if you can't see the desired attitude and results, you should immediately withdraw all good intentions. This is called being perceptive. There's no need to guess what the other person is thinking; a gentleman judges by actions, not intentions. If you can't feel it, then it's not there. If you don't receive actual feedback and still remain enthusiastic, then you're not being responsible for yourself.
