The New York Post reports that U.S. President Donald Trump told the newspaper on the 2nd that if necessary, the U.S. military will deploy ground troops into Iran. Trump stated in an interview with The New York Post on the 2nd that he would not make promises like other presidents to “never send ground troops,” emphasizing that if it becomes necessary, he does not rule out sending U.S. ground forces into Iran. During the interview, Trump noted that military actions against Iran have progressed far beyond initial plans. While he currently does not believe a large-scale ground invasion is necessary, he has not ruled out that option in advance. Trump stressed that he wants his opponents to understand that he “will go as far as necessary for American interests.” However, he also said he “won’t foolishly repeat the mistake of getting the U.S. deep into Middle Eastern wars.” Since the U.S. and Israel launched a joint military strike against Iran codenamed “Epic Fury,” the potential deployment of ground troops by the U.S. has attracted global attention, with several U.S. officials responding. U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin previously stated that no U.S. troops have entered Iran. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken reiterated Trump’s stance at a press conference on the 2nd, saying that even without ground troops, the U.S. can achieve its objectives. However, both officials indicated that the U.S. has not denied the possibility of deploying ground forces. (Global Times)
