Recently, a female friend of mine complained to me, saying that women are under too much pressure nowadays!
"Women are expected to be independent and autonomous, yet at the same time criticized for the 'Three Links and One Reach' (referring to logistics companies), isn't that both wanting and not wanting at the same time!?"
Whenever I hear these kinds of complaints, I always feel helpless.
I lit a cigarette, took a deep breath, and calmly said to her: "As a woman, you should have heard a phrase before, called 'Are you a man?'"
She looked confused.
"Yeah, so what? What does that have to do with me? I'm not a man."
I hesitated for a moment and then said to her:
"Have you ever thought that this phrase is actually quite strange?"
"Men, as beings socialized earlier than women, are assigned a series of task indicators by society."
"Buying a house, buying a car, career advancement, bearing household expenses... If you accomplish these, you're a man; if you can't, society will question your gender to criticize you."
She was silent.
I continued:
"Now, shifting to women, don't you think that the so-called advocacy for women's independence and autonomy is just women wanting to do whatever they want?"
"Nowadays, there are slogans promoting women's independence, which are very similar to the old days of constantly telling men 'You need to be a top-notch, upright man.'"
Can you see it? So, this is just a guise of 'social progress,' but behind it, society also wants women to start bearing pressure."
She asked, "So what?"
I finished my cigarette and stubbed it out.
"Social pressure is everywhere, even with multiple standards, and different standards can even contradict each other."
"This is the world every man faces. Welcome to this real world."
