According to CNN on March 10, Israeli Foreign Minister Sall stated that the possibility of assassinating Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Muqtada Khamenei, cannot be ruled out.

The report said Sall emphasized that Israel will continue military actions until the Israeli side and its partners believe it is “appropriate to stop.”

Sall stated that Muqtada Khamenei “continued his father’s extreme and reckless policies.”

On March 11, local time, Iranian Ambassador to Cyprus Ali Reza Salarian said in an interview that Muqtada Khamenei was injured in the U.S. and Israel airstrikes against Iran on February 28.

Salarian also revealed that during that airstrike, Iran’s then-Supreme Leader Khamenei was killed, and Muqtada was present at the time.

According to The New York Times, Muqtada was “injured in the leg” earlier during military actions by the U.S. and Israel against Iran.

Earlier, Yousuf Pezeshkian, son of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, stated on social media on March 11 that Iran’s Supreme Leader Muqtada Khamenei is “safe.”

Yousuf Pezeshkian said, “I heard Muqtada was injured. I asked friends who are in contact with him. They said he is safe and unharmed.”

As of 3 p.m. Beijing time on March 11, Muqtada had not yet delivered an inaugural speech. The outside world still knows little about his political stance. However, his ascension is generally seen as a clear signal that Iran’s policy tone will remain consistent. After his election, Iran’s military and political leaders expressed support and endorsement, indicating that there are no obvious cracks within the regime factions at present.

For a regime under immense military pressure from the U.S. and Israel, the smooth succession of the Supreme Leader is of great significance. Ellie Granmayr, an Iran expert at the European Council on Foreign Relations, said that Muqtada’s appointment sends a strong signal to Trump: his bombing and threats have not resulted in the regime change he desired.
