Pantheon Macroeconomics’s Ankita Amajuri stated that consumer confidence in France rebounded in February, and moderate consumption growth is expected later this year. The French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) consumer confidence index rose from 90 in January to 91. Amajuri said this increase was driven by improved sentiment around personal finances and living standards. Inflation expectations also declined. However, concerns about unemployment have rebounded. Amajuri said, “Looking ahead, we believe real income growth is rebounding. Later this year, as income tax brackets are likely to be indexed to inflation, real income growth will be further supported, which should help sustain moderate consumption growth.”
