The New York Stock Exchange has agreed to pay a $9 million civil fine to the SEC for a computer glitch in January 2023. This error simultaneously ran primary and backup trading systems, causing disruptions in opening auctions for thousands of stocks, resulting in trading halts, price swings, and busted trades. The NYSE has since enhanced its procedures and systems.
