Warm Enterprise Solar Cell Research and Development Breaks Record

Wenzhou Net News — Recently, Wenzhou City’s National University Science and Technology Park incubated enterprise—Huaru Photonics Technology (Wenzhou) Co., Ltd.—brought exciting news: its independently developed single-junction perovskite solar cell has been officially certified by the National Photovoltaic Industry Measurement Testing Center (NPVM). Under standard sunlight, its photoelectric conversion efficiency reaches 27.98%, setting a new world record for this technology route.
This achievement marks the first comprehensive surpassing of all types of single-crystal silicon solar cells in laboratory efficiency for perovskite photovoltaic technology, heralding a “good start” for technological innovation in Ouhai District by 2026.
Perovskite solar cells are a new type of photovoltaic device that captures light sources and converts them into electrical energy using perovskite materials with specific crystal structures. Compared to traditional silicon cells, they offer advantages such as lower cost, more flexible manufacturing processes, and lighter weight. They not only break through the inherent limitations of silicon cells in form and weight but also demonstrate excellent power generation performance in low-light environments, potentially covering application scenarios that traditional photovoltaics find difficult to reach.
“We improve some internal ‘defects’ in this new material’s thin film during manufacturing, allowing electricity to flow more smoothly inside, reducing waste, and thus generating more power,” said Guan Hao, R&D engineer at Huaru Photonics. Currently, the company’s core performance parameters such as open-circuit voltage and fill factor have reached an internationally leading level. The achievement of a 27.98% certified efficiency lays a solid foundation for perovskite technology to move from “technological follower” to “industry leader.”
Inside the company’s clean laboratory, reporters saw a series of thin, plastic-like battery samples, each about 30 centimeters by 30 centimeters. They are not only bendable and foldable but also have certain transparency. “From small electronic desk signs, remote controls, smart backpacks, phone cases, wearable clothing, to large-scale applications like car sunroofs and building facades, all could become power generation units in the future,” Guan Hao explained. This “light, thin, flexible, transparent” characteristic is driving photovoltaic applications from centralized power stations toward urban spaces, mobile terminals, and even deep space exploration, truly realizing “energy everywhere.”
Leveraging the unique advantages of materials, Huaru Photonics is actively developing diverse product forms such as flexible, layered, semi-transparent, and colored perovskite batteries, focusing on frontier scenarios like consumer electronics, IoT terminals, building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), transportation energy integration, and space energy. Currently, its perovskite batteries developed on lightweight flexible substrates have achieved efficiencies exceeding 25%.
It is reported that Huaru Photonics has been dedicated to flexible perovskite technology for over ten years and officially settled in Wenzhou City’s National University Science and Technology Park in September 2023. As an innovation consortium jointly built by the Wenzhou municipal government, Ouhai District government, China Electronics HIKVISION Group, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology Wenzhou Advanced Manufacturing Technology Research Institute, the company fully leverages the “government-enterprise-research” collaborative advantage to establish a full-chain industrial platform from research and development to pilot testing and mass production, accelerating the transformation of laboratory results into large-scale applications.
