IT House, March 4 — South Korean media The Elec reported today that a senior executive from Tesla’s procurement department plans to visit Samsung Electronics this week to discuss significantly increasing the production capacity of 2nm AI6 chips.

Sources said that last year, Tesla’s order volume with Samsung Foundry was equivalent to a monthly wafer shipment of 16,000 wafers, while Tesla’s additional demand reached 24,000 wafers per month.

IT House notes that Tesla views AI6 as a “general-purpose” AI chip that can serve a wide range of applications from electric vehicles to robots and data centers, which is the fundamental reason for the large demand for AI6.

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics’ DS Division System LSI business has completed the development of the 5G modems required by Tesla, with supply expected to begin in the first half of this year. The first batch of products will initially be used in Tesla’s Robotaxi fleet operating in Texas.
