Iran, Egypt Foreign Ministers Discuss Regional Developments Over Phone
(MENAFN) Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty spoke by phone Tuesday, engaging in high-level diplomatic discussions over the escalating fallout from recent American and Israeli military strikes against Iran.
According to a statement issued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, both sides exchanged assessments of the regional and international repercussions stemming from what they described as “unlawful” aggression by the United States and Israel, while reaffirming Iran’s right to legitimate self-defense.
Araghchi outlined Tehran’s official stance on the attacks, characterizing the Iranian armed forces’ retaliatory response as both decisive and legally justified. In turn, Abdelatty updated his Iranian counterpart on Cairo’s ongoing consultations with regional and international stakeholders aimed at pulling back tensions across West Asia.
The diplomatic exchange unfolded against a backdrop of sharply heightened regional volatility, following coordinated U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran that began on February 28. The offensive prompted Iran and allied regional forces to launch retaliatory strikes targeting Israeli and American interests throughout the Middle East.
