Mei clarifies that false reports about involvement with Trump or delaying the visit to China are unfounded
On March 16, the British Financial Times reported that U.S. President Trump “threatened to postpone his visit to China due to issues concerning the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.” In response, U.S. Treasury Secretary, White House Press Secretary Levitt, and Trump himself publicly clarified the matter that day. Bessent stated that if Trump’s visit to China were delayed, it would not be because Trump requested China to ensure the safety of the Strait of Hormuz passage; the related report was completely incorrect. If the meeting with the Chinese leader were to be rescheduled, it would be because “Trump believes he should stay in the U.S. during wartime.” (CCTV International News)
