Hong Kong Stock Market Trend | Hang Seng Index opens 87 points lower, BYD opens more than 2% above previous high
Market concerns about the potential failure of the U.S. and Iran to reach a ceasefire agreement have caused international oil prices to rise again, reflecting a 2.55% drop in the Golden Dragon Index, which tracks the performance of Chinese concept stocks. The Hong Kong stock market opened soft after falling below the bull-bear line yesterday, with the Hang Seng Index opening down 87 points.
The Hang Seng Index opened down 87 points or 0.35%, at 24,768 points.
The China Enterprises Index opened down 12 points or 0.15%, at 8,377 points.
The Tech Index opened down 20 points or 0.44%, at 4,740 points.
Haier Smart Home (06690) opened down 3.5%, at HKD 22.02; AIA (01299) opened down 3.4%, at HKD 84.05, being the worst performers among blue chips at the opening.
Earnings reports continue to be the market focus, with SMIC (00981) reporting a 39% increase in profits last year, but opening down 2% at HKD 52.1; Ping An (02318) reported a 6.5% increase in profit last year and opened down 1.1% at HKD 57.5. Meituan (03690) reported an adjusted loss of RMB 18.6 billion last year and opened down 0.6% at HKD 86.15; CNOOC (00883) reported an 11% drop in profits last year and opened down 0.8% at HKD 29; China Mobile (00941) reported a 0.9% drop in annual profits and opened flat at HKD 77.5.
Tech stocks showed mixed performance, with Alibaba (09988) opening flat at HKD 123; Tencent (00700) opened down 0.9% at HKD 491.2; JD.com (09618) opened up 0.4% at HKD 114; Xiaomi (01810) opened down 0.4% at HKD 32.3.
HSBC (00005) opened flat at HKD 124.8; BYD (01211), which is announcing earnings today, opened up 2.7% at HKD 105.5, being the best-performing blue chip at the opening.
Other major stocks announcing earnings today include BYD Electronic (00285), PetroChina (00857), China Construction Bank (00939), Longfor Group (00960), China Resources Land (01109), Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (01398), Bank of Communications (03328), and China Merchants Bank (03968).
