Abstract generation in progress

The Sha Ling Data Park held its groundbreaking ceremony today, with Secretary for Innovation and Technology and Industry Sun Dong responding to the media by stating that Hong Kong’s electric utility system is mature and well-established, and power suppliers have sufficient generation capacity and grid flexibility to fully meet the needs of various users; the electricity demand of the Sha Ling project is a long-term stable and predictable rigid demand, with no sudden spikes in usage, and the related power supply system will have mature solutions.

Sun Dong pointed out that the government conducted thorough research on the feasibility of the project before the tendering process, concluding that there are no insurmountable technical barriers, including those related to electricity, water, sewage treatment, transportation, and various supporting facilities.

In his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony, Sun Dong stated that the launch of the Sha Ling Data Park project is not only an important milestone in Hong Kong’s innovation and technology development but also a key step in moving from blueprint to reality for the Northern Metropolis development. Runze Intelligent Computing Technology Group Co., Ltd. has cast a vote of confidence in this innovative technology land with “real money” and practical actions, becoming the pioneer in developing Hong Kong’s first high-end data park, which is of great significance.

He said that the total floor area of the Sha Ling Data Park will reach 250,000 square meters, with nearly 90% allocated for high-end data centers. It is expected to start operations within 42 months, with an investment of 23.8 billion HKD in the first three years, which could generate about 4.6 billion HKD in economic output and create 180 technical positions. By 2032, the computing power scale could reach 180,000 PFLOPS (that is, 180 trillion floating-point operations per second), equivalent to 36 times Hong Kong’s current computing power.

Sun Dong stated that today marks not only the commencement of an infrastructure project but also an important initiative for Hong Kong to contribute to the country’s high-quality development and actively integrate into the national “Artificial Intelligence+” initiative. After the Sha Ling Data Park begins operations in 2029, it will shoulder three important missions: first, to become a data hub connecting the mainland and the international community, providing secure, efficient, and reliable infrastructure for data circulation; second, to serve as a core engine driving the development of Hong Kong’s artificial intelligence industry, attracting outstanding enterprises and innovators from home and abroad to gather in Hong Kong, forming a globally competitive innovation hub; third, to align with the “14th Five-Year Plan,” becoming an important support for advancing the construction of a digital China and empowering various industries with strong computing power.
