【Caixin Net】 The situation in the Middle East remains tense, and three Hong Kong airlines have again raised their fuel surcharges. Since the Middle East war began, aviation fuel prices have risen for three consecutive weeks. According to S&P Global Energy data, for the week ending March 20, the global average aviation fuel price was $197 per barrel—an increase of 98% from the week of Feb. 27 before the war, when it was $99.4 per barrel—nearing a doubling.

On March 27, Greater Bay Airlines announced another increase to its fuel surcharge. According to its announcement, effective April 1, for flights departing from Hong Kong to the Maldives, the fuel surcharge per segment will rise 34% from HK$541 to HK$725; for flights departing from Hong Kong to other destinations (excluding the Maldives and mainland China), the fuel surcharge per segment will also rise 34% from HK$290 to HK$389. In the previous round of adjustments, the two types of flights above had already been raised by 90% and 104%, respectively.
