Italian Prime Minister criticizes US and Israel over Iran war

Italian Prime Minister Meloni, in a speech to parliament today (March 11), criticized the war against Iran launched by the United States and Israel, saying it is part of an increasingly dangerous trend of outside intervention that is “beyond the scope of international law.” Meloni said, “Against the backdrop of a structural crisis in the international system, threats are becoming more and more terrifying, and unilateral interventions are occurring again and again, beyond what international law permits—we must examine the U.S.-and-Israel intervention against Iran within this framework.” However, she also said it is absolutely unacceptable to allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons. Meloni also said that Italy is providing air-defense equipment to Gulf countries. With the exception of Spain, most European countries have not yet directly criticized the attacks by the United States and Israel; instead, they are mainly calling on all sides to exercise restraint.
