Ask AI · Why high valuations and strict conditions made Samsung and LG give up the acquisition?

IT Home March 27 news: Korean media MK Today reported that as part of a shift in corporate strategic focus, Hitachi HITACHI tried to sell its current non-core business, Hitachi Global Life Solutions (GLS)—its home appliance division. However, the intended Korean companies, including Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, failed to reach a deal with Hitachi.

The report said that Hitachi offered a consideration of 2 trillion won (IT Home note: at the current exchange rate, about 9.178 billion yuan RMB). This price, along with conditions such as retaining existing employees and continuing to use the Hitachi brand within the next five years, deterred Samsung and LG.

Although the Hitachi brand still has considerable appeal in the country’s high-end home appliance market, its influence in overseas markets is relatively limited. For interested parties, this business is more like a ticket to enter the Japanese market.
