Ask AI · What geopolitical considerations are behind Trump’s oil remarks?

According to a report from Xinhua News Agency, on April 1 local time, U.S. President Trump gave a speech saying that the United States almost does not need to import oil through the Strait of Hormuz. Those countries that need to obtain oil through the Strait of Hormuz must “take responsibility for maintaining this route themselves.”

Trump urged these countries: either “buy oil from the United States,” or muster up the courage to go directly to the Strait of Hormuz to “seize oil.” He said that when the war in Iran ends, the strait “will naturally open.”

Trump warned that “once an agreement cannot be reached,” the United States will carry out a fierce strike against all of Iran’s power plants.

Trump said that previously, the U.S. military had not carried out attacks on Iran’s oil facilities. “But the U.S. military can act at any time. Once it does, those facilities will instantly be wiped out, and Iran will have no way to respond.”

Trump also said the United States is conducting close monitoring and control of these facilities through satellites. Once it finds any movement or change on the other side, the United States will immediately fire missiles to deliver a “devastating” strike.
