Lately, I've been really into gin and trying out different kinds, and I have to say, Japan's recommended gins are truly impressive. Especially with more craft gins like Sakurao and Konomi, the options are expanding.
Premium gins you find at bars are great, but for home drinking, cost performance is usually a priority. In that regard, classic gins like Gordon's and Tanqueray are convenient and definitely essential for a beginner's recommended gin ranking. They really make a difference in a gin and tonic.
But personally, I've been more interested in recent Japanese craft gins. Sakurao has a good balance of woody and citrus notes, and it's satisfying whether mixed with soda or as a gin soda. Mizu also has a citrusy flavor and is easy to drink, while Konomi's yuzu and sansho add a fresh Japanese touch. I want to recommend these unique gins.
I’ve also tried complex German gins like Monkey 47, but they can be a bit too strong and difficult for beginners given their price. The fragrance of Kō no Shizuku is like a forest bath, and it feels really good when mixed with soda. Nikka's Cafe Gin, with its sansho flavor, is also interesting.
For gin beginners, it's safe to start with Gordon's or Mizu to learn the basics. Once you're comfortable, moving on to Japanese gins like Sakurao or Konomi is a good choice. Since the flavor can change completely depending on how you mix it, I think finding a gin that suits your taste is part of the fun.
