Former Deputy Director of the Development Research Center of the State Council, Wang Yiming: Our country's talent resources are the most proactive advantage in developing new quality productive forces.

People’s Finance News, April 2: On April 2, at the 2026 CECED Forum, Wang Yiming, former deputy director of the Development Research Center of the State Council, said that China has multiple advantages in optimizing and upgrading traditional industries. The previous comparative advantages have been shifting toward comprehensive competitive advantages. For quite a long period of time, China’s traditional industries relied on low-cost labor to participate in international competition; however, now our large-scale market advantage, complete industrial advantage, abundant talent advantage, intelligent technology advantage, and new energy advantages are gradually being integrated. This comprehensive competitive advantage will empower China’s products and industries to move toward the mid-to-high end of global value chains. In particular, with respect to the talent resource advantage, China already has 250 million people who have received higher education; the number of engineers graduating each year is equivalent to the total in developed countries. Talent and human capital conditions are the most proactive; other countries cannot sanction them. This is also the advantage that makes it most proactive to develop new quality productive forces in China.
